In the heart of Texas, beyond the hustle of major cities like Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas, lies a landscape marked by unseen challenges. It’s a realm where the shadows of the criminal justice system loom large, where natural disasters leave lasting scars, and where homelessness and poverty are an ever-present reality.
A New Dawn in Texas: The Genesis of GTTR
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As the year draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the profound impact we’ve made together. It’s a journey marked not only by achievements, but also by the lives we’ve touched and the community we’ve built. This year has been marked by impactful initiatives that weaved into one another to form a solid foundation of support and empowerment within our community.
In nurturing the aspirations of our youth, we awarded thirteen need-based scholarships, each amounting to $1,000, to high school seniors stepping into the collegiate world. But our support didn’t stop at financial assistance; we opened doors to mentorship, internships, and networking opportunities. These experiences have been instrumental in equipping these young minds with the skills, connections, and practical insights necessary for success in their chosen fields.
In our efforts to support the homeless, we distributed customized blessing bags filled with basic essentials. These packages were a small but impactful way to extend a helping hand, ensuring those in need had access to necessary resources.
Over Memorial Day weekend, GTTR proudly served more than 200 meals to veterans, active-duty service members and the community. Our annual Memorial Day Barbecue is more than a meal; it’s a symbol of our gratitude and appreciation for their sacrifices. This event plays a crucial role in bolstering the physical and mental well-being of our heroes, fostering a sense of fellowship and mental well-being.
The Christmas season brought with it the opportunity to share joy and hope through our Christmas Angel Tree celebration. We extended the festive spirit to families with children of incarcerated individuals, offering gift cards. This annual tradition is rooted in our desire to ensure that these families felt included during a time that can often be challenging, thereby spreading the true essence of the holiday spirit.
Each of these initiatives, unique in their purpose yet united in their impact, underscore our organization’s dedication to addressing diverse needs and building a community where every individual feels supported and valued.
To our donors, volunteers, and supporters: your generosity and support have been the cornerstone of our achievements. A heartfelt thanks to Walmart Foundation and BuildTechz for their significant financial contributions, enabling us to extend our reach and deepen our impact.
Celebrating the spirit of our community, we warmly thank Kensha Snowden and Yolanda Cooper for their unwavering commitment and support of GTTR’s mission, significantly enriching our events and efforts.
As we look forward to the new year, we are filled with optimism and determination. Our plans are ambitious, our hopes are high, and our commitment to making a difference is unwavering.
Wishing you a holiday season filled with peace, joy, and love, and a new year that brings new opportunities and continued success.
With deepest gratitude,
